In 2024 alone I deployed 272 assets solo for Opendoor. That number is a bit rigged towards my favor as it is based on the number of packages sent out. So, Monitor and dock replacements help me out a good bit!
The strategy I used for this was to image each laptop using Acronis and get all needed aps installed. Then I would domain the computer under my own account. Intune after each shipment I would update the device in Intune to be assigned to the right employee. This way I do not have to get any user passwords (huge security concern) and give them the best replacement experience possible. All users had todo was connect the device to their internet, hit the other user login, and bam they are all set-up. No sweat on either the user or IT end as I had already installed all apps such as the all important MDM.
Now retrieval has always been my worst enemy. Employees just love to hoard old broken equipment! And worse is terminated employees which gets a little to HR for me in reaching out to that group. So first getting the device back I utilized Allwhere to handle shipping back to me. The Mac side of the business already used the platform so no cost. Then it’s just the small task of unboxing and testing old devices to see what can be re-used.
I have gotten some UGLY laptops back. My personal favorite was one that gave the office roaches… or how about all the smokers out there. Y’alls laptops are nasty!
This process helped me stretch that Windows Inventory out for years with device re-use!
